At 44 years old, Captain Mike Greenwood has lived in Florida for most of his life.
Born in New Jersey, Mike's family moved to Merritt Island, Florida when Mike was only
a year and a half old. Mike found himself surrounded by both the Indian and Banana Rivers.
Mike's father, being an avid fisherman, taught young Mike how to fish.
By the age of 7, Mike was tossing artificial baits to the monster trout that inhabit the surrounding waterways.
Back in the days, there was a huge sign on the way to Merritt Island that
read Spotted Seatrout Capitol of the World, which Mike found out to be oh so true.
Growing up, his family used to snorkel off of the 528 causeway in 4-5 feet of water and literally net dozens of tasty blue crabs
another delicious family favorite. Mike's father was an electrical engineer for the Apollo Program at the Kennedy Space Center.
Once the program ended, Mike's family moved to Virginia for two years, returning to Florida yet again just before Mike started the
10th grade. |
The family, loving the water, bought a house on a small canal on the Banana River.
Mike took advantage of both his father's 12 foot jon boat, and the family's larger 20 foot fishing boat,
frequently venturing out to explore the bountiful Pelican Flats just off of Port Canaveral.
Since then, Mike has upgraded to more modern means. His Coast Guard approved 18 foot Pro Sports flats boat,
(which can handle as many as four anglers), has all the equipment necessary to ensure a successful day on
the water including a poling platform, 24 volt electric trolling motor, fish/depth finder,
live well, dry storage, all backed by a powerful 115 horse powered Yamaha outboard engine.
Now, Mike considers St. Augustine his home, where he's lived for more than 19 years, capitalizing on the abundance
of inshore gamefish found not only in St. Augustine, but also in the surrounding waters of Jacksonville, Pine Island,
Matanzas, Palm Coast, the Tomoka Basin and the Mosquito Lagoon/Titusville areas.
His specialty is fishing in St Augustine with light tackle fishing for Trout, Redfish, Flounder, Snook, Mangrove Snapper,
Tarpon and other lesser sought after fish such as Jack Crevalle, Ladyfish, Bluefish, and the like.
Before gaining his captain's license and following his passion for the water, Mike shaped custom surfboards.
It is this love of saltwater that has lead him to fish all over Florida's east and west coast.
He's been a pro-angler on the popular redfish tournament trail for 4 years now,
which naturally lead him into obtaining his captain's license. Mike's enthusiasm and excitement for fishing is
apparent when you are on the boat with him. So you're invited to climb aboard and experience a Reel Thrill
with Captain Mike Greenwood You won't soon forget!
